How it works

This is a system that allows for conversion and importing of tables from pdf documents into Excel.

To convert and import tables, simply follow these steps:

Step 1

Starting in an empty sheet. Click on ‘Converting’ located in the Cleaning and Structuring group.

A new pop-up side panel will appear on the right-hand side of your excel.

Step 2

Start by clicking on “Choose file” to select the pdf document to be converted.

Step 3

If the tables within the document have clear table grid-lines then simply click on ‘Build Table’. This will initiate the Table identification process. Continue to step 6.

If not, move to step 4

Step 4

Click on ‘Mark Gridlines’to enter Marking Mode.

Step 5

In Marking Mode, you can use your cursor to draw the outside boundary of the table. Within the marked table, left-click once to add a column divider and left-click twice to remove the divider. You can change the size of the boundary box by hovering on the boundary and dragging it. Multiple Tables can be selected per page.

Once completed, you can click on ‘Apply All’ to apply the markings to all pages that do not already contain markings.

Use the arrow keys to navigate between pages to adjust markings were necessary.

Once satisfied with markings, click on ‘Build Table’, to initiate table identification.

Step 6

Once table identification has been initiated, a progress bar will appear while Nirvana works.

Upon completion, the Detected Tables side panel will appear. Click on any Table to view the detection, which is indicated through a green highlight on the document.

Select the tables to be imported using the tickboxes in the Detected Tables side panel then click ‘Import’.

Once satisfied, click ‘Import’ on the review pop-up message.

Step 7

After processing, a completion pop-up will notify completion. The Tables selected for import will then get populated underneath each other from the top of the sheet.
